What I would want every new client to understand is that the confusion is normal. People expect to feel clear anger toward whoever was responsible, and instead they feel loyalty, or guilt, or a persistent sense that they must have misremembered the whole thing. That mixture is standard. Abuse that came from someone you also loved produces contradictory feelings by design, and the contradiction is not evidence that you have got the facts wrong. We make room for all of it without requiring you to settle on a single verdict about the person. Most people find that permission enormously relieving. I practiced in group settings for years before working alone, and the most valuable thing in that room was hearing someone else describe the same contradictory mixture out loud. It is far more common than it feels. If you have been doubting your own account, get in touch.
