The person who usually finds me has just achieved something and cannot understand why they feel flat. The promotion happened, the move went through, the last child left for university, and everybody around them is delighted while they feel oddly bereft. That flatness after a good change catches people off guard. A new chapter removes the old structure along with the old problems, and the absence of structure is felt long before the freedom is enjoyed. We name that honestly instead of insisting you ought to be pleased. Most people relax a lot once someone agrees that this is a real thing rather than ingratitude. I came here from nonprofit and social-work adjacent work, where I met a great many people adjusting to an empty nest or a sudden change in circumstances with no acknowledgement from anyone. Acknowledgement matters. If you achieved something and feel flat, get in touch.
