I will say the hard part plainly: describing this to a stranger is really difficult, and most people put it off for years. The specific content that runs through your head can feel impossible to repeat in front of anyone. Here is what I can tell you. I have heard versions of it many times over, and OCD responds to treatment far better than its reputation suggests. We move at a pace you set, building your tolerance for uncertainty rather than trying to argue the doubt into submission. We also make room for the fact that the doubt will keep turning up for a while, and that its arrival is not a sign the work has failed. Nothing here gets forced on you. I practiced in group settings for a long stretch before going out on my own, and that showed me how much lighter this becomes the moment it stops being a secret. Most people find the second conversation a lot easier than the first. If you have been rehearsing how to explain yourself, you can skip the rehearsal with me and simply start.
