The person who usually finds me is careful about where they sit, notices every exit without meaning to, and has an entirely reasonable explanation for both habits. They rarely mention either one until asked directly. Those habits travel with a particular kind of history. Flashbacks are the version most people have heard of, though the quieter accommodations are more common. Over a lifetime they are a lot more disruptive, because nobody ever identifies them as symptoms. We inventory the quiet ones too. That inventory is often the first time someone sees the full extent of what they have been managing. Group settings came before my own practice, and it was there that I first noticed how many people shared these habits while each believing themselves peculiar. If you know where every exit is, get in touch. The quiet accommodations are the ones worth naming first. Nobody ever calls them symptoms, which is exactly why they persist.
