I believe therapy works when someone is finally allowed to say the true thing without watching the other person's face for damage. That is most of what I offer, and in this area it turns out to be very nearly everything. After the loss of a loved one, nearly everyone edits themselves constantly. You protect your mother, you reassure your friends, you perform a manageable version of yourself at work, and the unedited account has nowhere at all to go. In here it has somewhere to go. You can be furious at the person who died, or relieved, or indifferent on a Tuesday, or all three within a single hour, and none of it will be treated as a symptom. I began in school and university counseling settings, where I learned to be plain rather than clever. Plain is better for this. If you have been editing yourself for months, come here and stop.
