I will be honest about something people rarely say aloud: a good number arrive convinced that what they experience is too strange to describe, and that saying it will produce a visible reaction in me. That expectation is nearly always wrong, and it keeps people silent for years. Very little is strange to me at this point. Flashbacks in particular are often described apologetically, as though the person were reporting something shameful rather than a well-documented and entirely explicable phenomenon. They are not strange. They are among the most thoroughly understood responses in the field, and there are good reasons for every part of how they present. Before working alone I spent years in group settings, where people routinely discovered that their most private symptom was in the room three times over. That has stayed with me. If you think yours is too strange to say, it almost certainly is not.
