My belief is that the most useful thing anyone can offer here is steady company rather than perspective. Perspective arrives on its own eventually. Company has to be provided by someone, and most people find it in very short supply once the first few weeks have passed. So that is what this hour mostly is. The loss of a loved one leaves people surrounded by well-meaning advice and almost entirely without anybody willing to sit in it with them for an hour a week. We do exactly that. It sounds modest next to the promises other approaches make, and in my experience it is what actually carries people through the first year. I first came to this as a client after a death of my own, and what helped was not a single clever observation. It was someone turning up every week without needing me to improve on schedule. If advice is all you have been offered, get in touch.
