
There is something worth establishing straight away: feeling better is a skill set, not a personality trait, and skill sets can be built at any age. I work with adults who live on edge, scanning every room for whatever might go wrong next. Many are buckling under the pressures of doing everything competently and almost none of it happily. Cognitive behavioral therapy is my discipline, and I hold myself to using it exactly rather than generically. You will walk out of every session with skills you can use before the week is over. I favor clarity over comfort, though my clients usually end up with both. I cut my teeth in community mental health, where resources were short and excuses were shorter.
