There is a myth that you have to hit bottom before therapy is justified. I would like to put that idea to rest. You are allowed to ask for help while you are still functioning, and honestly, the work goes better that way. Much of my practice is with adults who live on edge, braced for a blow that never quite lands. I also companion people through dark seasons that have gone on longer than anyone around them knows. My approach is cognitive behavioral therapy: we untangle the beliefs and habits holding the fear and the flatness in place, then replace them deliberately. Caregiving surrounded me from childhood, and I never seriously considered doing anything else with my life. I try to offer the same steadiness I watched the adults around me provide. I am thoughtful by nature, and I will think alongside you rather than at you. Nothing about this process needs to be rushed. If something here resonates, I would be glad to hear from you.
