
A moment that happens in almost every first session: someone starts to explain the thing they came in about, stops halfway, and says they know it sounds ridiculous. It never does, and I say so out loud every time. Overthinking is not a character flaw and it is not something you can decide your way out of by trying harder, which is usually the only strategy anyone has offered. We work out what your mind is actually doing when it loops, what it is trying to settle, and why settling never quite arrives. Then we build a way to step out earlier. It gets easier with practice and it does not require you to become a different person. I treat this as a craft I am still getting better at, so I ask more questions than I answer and I check whether what we are doing is working.
