Am I taking too long? Almost everybody asks me some version of that, usually apologetically, and usually about a timeline nobody ever actually agreed on. You are not taking too long. Grief runs on its own schedule and pays no attention to the one your colleagues and relatives seem to be quietly keeping. Some people arrive in the first month and some arrive four years later, having managed the practical parts brilliantly and never once sat down with any of it. Both are ordinary. We start from wherever you actually are rather than from where you have decided you ought to be by now, and we go at a pace that does not require you to perform recovery for anyone. I came to this work after a first go at another field entirely, which means I know what it is to rebuild something. If you have been putting this off, that is not a failure of nerve.
