
I believe therapy works when you can finally say the thing out loud and nobody flinches. Everything useful starts there. I spent a stretch in administration before returning to clinical work, and I came back because I missed the actual conversations. Most of the people I see are adults with ADHD who are tired of being told to just try harder. We work on executive functioning in ways that fit the brain you've got, not the one productivity books assume. My approach is cognitive-behavioral, which means we look at what you think and do all day, then change what isn't working. As a Black therapist, I know how much it matters to sit across from someone who doesn't need everything explained. I hear from a lot of men who put this off for years, and I get it.
