I am a therapist for adults whose household is coming apart, whether they instigated it, agreed to it, or had it announced to them. All three positions are difficult in different ways and I have no view about which is hardest. Splitting up is one of the few life events that combines administrative complexity with genuine sorrow, and most people underestimate the first part badly. We deal with both. Some sessions are about how to divide a decade of shared arrangements and others are about who you are now, and both count as the work rather than one being a distraction from the other. I came to this as a client during exactly this, and what I needed was someone unshockable and practical. That is what I try to be. If your household is coming apart, get in touch. Nothing about this requires you to be composed.
