There's a particular silence that shows up in my practice: the pause right before someone says the thing they've never said anywhere else. I've come to respect that silence more than almost anything in this work. For years I supervised newer clinicians, and helping them sharpen their craft kept mine honest. These days my focus is on people whose substance use began as a way to survive something that should never have happened. Post-traumatic injury sits at the center of much of what I do, and many clients trace the hardest parts of their story to a deployment or the strange quiet that followed it. I also offer sessions in American Sign Language (ASL). I aim to be easy to talk to and very hard to shock. Sessions with me feel like a real conversation with someone paying complete attention. If you've been circling the idea of therapy for a while, consider this your opening.
