The first thing I want to put on the table is this: you do not have to prepare for therapy. You do not need the right words, a tidy story, or a label you picked out for yourself at two in the morning. I practiced in group settings for years before opening my own doors, and going solo let me shape therapy around people instead of policies. Anxiety is my specialty, especially the high-functioning kind that everyone else mistakes for ambition. As a queer therapist, I am not someone you will need to educate before you can exhale. I am transgender, and I know from the inside how much it matters when your therapist simply gets it. I welcome clients who use American Sign Language (ASL). I keep things plain: clear words, honest answers, no mystique. If that sounds like relief, an intro session is a simple place to start.
