
After many years of doing this work, here is what I know: people are almost never lazy, broken, or dramatic. They are usually exhausted in ways they have never been allowed to admit. I began in university counseling centers, where I learned to meet people at the exact point of overwhelm. Now I work with adults who feel burnt out by lives they chose and once loved. I also see people whose days have gone strangely joyless, full of activity and empty of meaning. Mindfulness is central to how I practice; we use it to notice what is true before deciding what to do about it. My room is deliberately nonjudgmental: whatever you bring, we can look at it plainly, with no shame attached. I take seriously how much trust it takes to be this honest with someone new. Change tends to follow honesty; I have watched it happen too many times to doubt it. If steadiness is what you have been missing, I would be glad to talk.
