I'll say the quiet part first: starting therapy takes more nerve than almost anything else I could name. If you're reading this, some of that nerve is already working. My path ran through nonprofit and social services before private practice, and it left me allergic to pretense. Many of my clients are active duty or recently out of uniform, and I know the culture well enough that you won't spend our time translating it. Hypervigilance can turn an ordinary afternoon into a threat assessment that never ends. Drinking often steps in as the off switch, and we look at it with honesty instead of alarm bells. I'm Jewish, and the tradition's habit of asking hard questions out loud shapes how I sit with people. I've noticed how many people relax once they realize nothing they say will rattle me. Our conversations will feel like conversations, not procedures. When you're ready, I'd really love to hear from you.
