
Therapy works when the method matches the problem. General support is a fine thing, but it is not what shifts this, and years of thoughtful conversation can leave the mechanism completely untouched. Obsessive-compulsive difficulties respond to a specific approach, applied consistently, with someone who knows where the trapdoors are. That is what I do. We will be deliberate about it, we will track whether it is working, and if it is not, we will change what we are doing rather than wait politely for improvement to arrive on its own. You will always know what we are doing and why, and you can ask me to justify any part of it at any point. Nearly everyone who comes to me was sent by someone I worked with before, which I take as evidence that the approach holds up. I would rather be useful than agreeable, and I will say plainly if I think someone else would serve you better. If you want a frank assessment of whether I can help you, ask me.
