There is a myth that you have to hit some cinematic rock bottom before therapy can help. In truth, the people who do best usually come in while life still mostly works, but the cracks are getting harder to ignore. I specialize in the post-traumatic aftermath of events people rarely talk about, and in problem drinking, which so often rides along. Many of the people I see are service members, current and former, along with spouses trying to understand what changed. I have learned that rank and toughness say nothing about who deserves care. Everyone who sits across from me gets the same steady respect. I grew up around caregiving, so this work has always felt less like a job I chose and more like the family trade. People tell me they leave our conversations feeling clearer, not judged. We will go at a sane pace, look honestly at what is working and what is not, and decide together what comes next. If you are weighing whether to reach out, consider this your nudge.
