
There is one correction I make more than any other: the tiredness is not a character defect and it is not a sleep problem that better habits will fix. People try everything reasonable and conclude the fault must be theirs. The fault is not theirs. Hypervigilance consumes an enormous amount of energy invisibly, which is why someone can sleep eight hours and wake up with nothing in reserve, and why sleep advice reliably fails to touch it. We treat the cause rather than the symptom. The tiredness then resolves on its own, which surprises people a lot. Community mental health is where I learned the trade, and I met a great many people who had been handed sleep advice for a problem that was never about sleep. If better habits have not worked, there is a reason. Energy returns once the cause is treated rather than the symptom.
