The person who usually finds me looks entirely fine and has an excellent explanation for everything. They sleep poorly and attribute it to work. They avoid certain places and call it preference. They startle badly and describe themselves as jumpy. That accumulation of small explanations is what post-traumatic difficulty looks like in a functioning adult. Nothing on the list seems remarkable in isolation, so nobody assembles the list, including the person living it. We assemble it together, and the pattern is usually obvious once it is written down in one place rather than spread thinly across a decade. Crisis work came at the very start for me and learned to notice what people were explaining away. The explanations are often more revealing than the complaints. If you have a good reason for every item on that list, get in touch. Most people are relieved to find that the list explains itself.
