The first conversation is mostly logistics and explanation. I will ask about sleep, about what you avoid, and about what you would like to be different, and then I will spend a decent portion of the hour describing exactly how this treatment proceeds. That description matters more than people expect. Post-traumatic work has a defined shape, with an early stage that has nothing to do with discussing what happened. Knowing that in advance removes most of the dread people carry into a first appointment. Nothing difficult is approached in that meeting. You leave with information rather than with anything opened up. I have learned that the fear of the first session is nearly always about being asked to describe something. You will not be. If knowing the process in advance would help, get in touch. You leave that hour with information and nothing opened up.
