People generally contact me once the initial goodwill has run out. For the first stretch there is help, interest, and allowance made; then everyone concludes you have landed and the allowances quietly stop, usually well before you have actually landed. That withdrawal is the common trigger. Major life changes attract support at the beginning and almost none in the long middle, which is exactly inverted from what would be useful. We provide the attention during the middle. It is unglamorous and it is the point at which it actually counts. I supervise newer clinicians alongside my practice, and I spend some of that time arguing that the interesting phase is not the dramatic one. If the allowances have stopped and you have not landed, get in touch. The middle is the part that goes unattended, and it is the part that counts. The middle is where I do most of my work.
