There is a myth that you have to hit rock bottom before therapy can help. I have watched too many people turn things around early to believe that anymore. Addiction rarely announces itself; it moves in quietly while you are busy coping with everything else. My approach centers on your own reasons for change, because borrowed motivation has a short shelf life. I try to be the kind of person you can be fully honest with, even about the things you have never said anywhere. I spent my early years running groups before moving to individual work, and I still miss the way a room of strangers could tell each other the truth. Expect real talk from me, along with genuine respect for how complicated this is. You do not need a dramatic story to justify reaching out. Being tired of the cycle is reason enough, and it is a good one.
