My belief is that nobody should be in this sort of treatment indefinitely. It has stages, it has an end, and a competent practitioner should be able to tell you roughly where you are in the process rather than continuing week after week without any stated destination. So we work toward finishing. PTSD is a condition with recognized treatments and expected timescales. Individuals vary a lot, and an indefinite arrangement with no review is still a warning sign rather than a mark of thoroughness. We review regularly and openly. You should always know what remains and roughly how long it might take to get there. My caseload is deliberately small, which is what makes that sort of attention possible in the first place. If you want treatment with a stated end rather than an arrangement that simply continues, get in touch. An end point is a reasonable thing to ask for.
