The myth I would most like to put down is that you have to be in crisis to deserve an hour of this. Most of the people I sit with are not in crisis at all. They are functioning, and they are flat. A life can go joyless without anything visibly breaking, and that version is easy to wave away because there is nothing dramatic to point at. It still costs people years when nobody looks at it properly. We work out what has drained away and roughly in what order, then start putting things back on purpose rather than waiting to feel like it. Waiting to feel like it is the trap. Acting first and letting the feeling catch up later is what tends to work. I came up through nonprofit and social-work adjacent roles, where I met a lot of people who had decided they were not entitled to help. You are. If any of this sounds familiar, get in touch.
