People assume therapy for addiction means someone will take the one thing getting you through the day away from you. That's the myth I most want to correct: nothing is taken here, and nothing happens without your say-so. I started out in crisis services, where I learned that a settled presence can hold almost anything. Post-traumatic wounds and substance use often arrive together, and I treat them as one story rather than two separate problems. I have deep experience with service members and the particular weight they carry home. As a Black therapist, I know what it means to scan a room before deciding how much of yourself to bring into it. As a gender expansive clinician, I extend that same understanding to people whose sense of self rarely fits the forms. Clients tell me the room feels quieter with me in it, and I take that as high praise. You set the pace and the agenda here. If you've been carrying all of this alone, you don't have to keep doing it that way.
