
People generally contact me at the point where the workarounds stop working. For months it is possible to compensate with lists, caffeine, early nights, and sheer determination, and then one week the compensations quietly fail and there is nothing underneath them. That failure is usually the moment someone accepts this is not a passing patch. Depression is very good at presenting as a personal failing, which is why so many people spend a year trying to out-organize it before considering that it might be a condition with a treatment. It is treatable, and the treatment is not willpower. My earlier working life was in a completely different field, one where I watched a good many capable people quietly stop coping and put it down to themselves.
