You may be here because the thing you were working toward has actually happened, and the feeling you expected to accompany it has not turned up. That gap is disorienting and it is very common, though almost nobody mentions it out loud because it sounds ungrateful. It is not ungrateful. A new chapter removes the structure that the previous one provided, and the loss of that structure is felt immediately while the benefits take a lot longer to arrive. We work on what has actually gone rather than insisting that you concentrate on what you have gained. Both are real, and only one of them is being acknowledged by the people around you. My years in hospital and intensive outpatient care taught me that people are often least supported at exactly the moment everybody assumes they must be fine. If the thing happened and you feel flat about it, get in touch.
