
One of my favorite moments arrives a few sessions in: a client stops mid-sentence, surprised, and says they have never told anyone that before. That little surprise is the sound of a door opening. I spent years working inside hospitals and intensive day programs, so very little rattles me, and hope is not a theory I hold; it is something I have watched happen again and again. Exhaustion usually walks in first, followed slowly by everything it was covering for. Depression is a skilled liar, and part of my job is helping you fact-check it. Mindfulness keeps us honest and present while we do. I am a nonbinary therapist, and my practice is open in every sense, including language: I work in both English and American Sign Language (ASL). People sometimes expect hospital experience to make a person cold; mine made me warm. Reach out whenever you are ready, and bring the thing you have never told anyone.
