When did being alert stop feeling like a temporary state? Plenty of the people I meet cannot answer that, because the shift happened so gradually that there was never a particular day it began. My work is with adults who have been on edge for so long that it now reads as their baseline rather than as a symptom of anything. We start by establishing what calm actually feels like for you, which is harder than it sounds when it has been years. Then we work on lengthening it. Progress here gets measured in ordinary hours that pass without incident rather than in dramatic breakthroughs. Research was my first setting, and I moved into the room because I wanted to see whether any of it held up with an actual person sitting in front of me. Mostly it does. If alert has become your baseline, get in touch and we can find out where the line is.
