What this work has shown me repeatedly is that people quietly miss the version of the future they had assumed, and almost nobody gives themselves permission to. The plan that is no longer happening was real to you, and its disappearance registers even when the replacement is perfectly good. A new chapter always displaces an imagined one. Acknowledging that is not wallowing and it does not make you ungrateful; it is simply accurate, and accuracy tends to be what allows people to move. We make room for the discarded version before building any enthusiasm for the actual one. I keep a small caseload deliberately, because this kind of work depends on knowing the specifics of what someone expected their life to look like. That is not information you gather in a hurry. If you are missing a future that is not happening, get in touch.
