The clearest thing this work has shown me is that people are rarely short on insight. They have usually analyzed the problem thoroughly and from several angles before they ever reach me. That is exactly why more advice has not helped. Overthinking is not a thinking deficit; it is thinking deployed as a safety behavior, running long past the point of usefulness. So we do not add more analysis to the pile. We work on tolerating the unresolved, which is the actual skill, and on noticing the moment the mind switches from solving to circling. We also look at what the circling is protecting you from having to feel, which is usually the more interesting question. I first encountered therapy as a client, and that permanently affected how I sit in this chair. I know how it feels to be handed advice you had already considered and discarded. You will not be told to simply stop thinking about it. Expect something more useful than that.
