
Is this just who I am now? People ask me that in a first session more than any other question, usually about a version of themselves they do not recognize and did not agree to. The answer is almost always no. Being anxious for a long stretch quietly resets what normal feels like, and normal is not the same thing as permanent. We start by working out which parts are situational, which have hardened into habit, and which are worth keeping, because some of that alertness has really been protecting you. Then we take the rest apart slowly. I will not pretend this moves faster than it does. I treat this work as a craft I am still getting better at, which keeps me curious rather than certain about you. You will notice I ask a lot of questions and offer fewer conclusions than you might expect. If you have been quietly wondering whether this is permanent, that is a good place for us to begin.
