I am not going to hand you another version of that advice. Here is what I actually do. I work with adults who feel depressed in the low-grade, persistent way that rarely shows on the outside, and I help them figure out what is underneath it and what to do next. We get specific about the shape of your days, notice where the flatness thickens, and test practical changes rather than admiring the problem. I have spent a good part of my working life guiding newer clinicians, and mentoring them sharpened how clearly I can explain what is happening inside a stuck mind. Talking with me is more relaxed than clinical, though I stay pointed and useful. I ask good questions, I keep what matters in view, and I do not fill the hour with silence you have to rescue.
