
One myth I would like to retire is the idea that you have to be at rock bottom to earn a seat in therapy. Most people I meet are still technically functioning, still showing up everywhere, and quietly convinced they are the only one faking it. I work mainly with adults living with depression, especially the high-functioning kind. It hides behind a capable daytime face and only shows itself once the door clicks shut. We name what is actually happening, separate the plain facts from the brutal story you have wrapped around them, and rebuild your days into something you can bear to live inside. My training happened in community mental health, where I sat with people from every situation imaginable and gradually stopped being surprised by anyone.
