
One of my favorite moments in this work came when a client pointed at a steady stretch on her own mood chart and grinned, because she knew she had built it herself. You do the changing; I bring the map. Living with bipolar disorder asks a lot of a person, and good therapy should give something real back. When getting out of bed feels like the day's hardest task, we do not start with grand goals; we start exactly there. My sessions are structured, because progress you can see is progress you can trust. Distress tolerance comes early in our work, so the hardest moments stop costing you the most. As a therapist of color, I know the relief of not having to explain the basics of your world before getting to the point. I hold real hope and high standards in the same hand. I also supervise newer clinicians, which keeps me sharp about my own craft. Hope is not a personality quirk here; it is my position. Come borrow some until yours returns.
