The idea I would most like to dispel is that you have to revisit everything in detail before anything can improve. That belief is widespread, it puts a great many people off entirely, and it is not how effective treatment actually works. A lot can change without extensive excavation. Hypervigilance in particular responds to work in the present, because the pattern is maintained by what happens now rather than by the original circumstances that installed it. We can lower it substantially while leaving the history largely undiscussed, if that is what you prefer. Some people later choose to go further and a good many never need to. I was raised around caregiving and watched people assume that help always means something arduous. It often does not. If the prospect of excavation has kept you away, that prospect is negotiable. You decide how much of the history is ever discussed at all.
