
I will be straightforward: it can feel absurd to book an appointment about something that is not, on paper, a disaster. People minimize their own situation constantly, comparing it to worse things and concluding they have no right to find it hard. You have the right. Whatever the next season of your life turns out to be, the period of not knowing is really difficult, and difficulty does not have to be catastrophic to be worth attention. We start from what is actually happening to you rather than from how it ranks against other people's problems. Ranking your own difficulty is a habit worth losing. Before private practice I worked in community mental health, where I met people whose situations were objectively severe and who still apologized for taking up a chair. Almost everybody does it. If you have been minimizing, come here and stop. Nobody here is going to ask you to justify the size of your problem.
