Who am I now? That question sits underneath a lot of what gets discussed in this room, and people are often embarrassed to say it out loud because it sounds self-absorbed. It is not self-absorbed. It is the actual problem. A widow who was married for three decades has lost a role as well as a person, and the same is true after any death that defined a large part of your daily identity. We look at what has to be rebuilt and what really cannot be, without pretending that a new version of your life is an adequate replacement for the one you had. Some of it is not replaceable and I will not suggest otherwise. I regard this as a craft I am still refining, and this particular area has shown me more than any other about the limits of being helpful. Mostly I try to be accurate and stay put. If that question is yours, get in touch.
